A few good questions.
What people are asking.
- What’s in the box?
- Eight things to play with — magnifier, adventure log, wooden tokens, pocket compass, cipher wheel, lantern cards, an old key, and scroll paper. Hand-assembled in Milwaukee. Built to be used.
- How does the AI part work?
- When you’re ready to play, you open the app, tell it your kid’s name and which adventure to run. The app writes the story for you to read aloud. The kid never sees the screen. The AI helps the grown-up; the grown-up runs the magic.
- How much will it cost?
- $99 for the kit, one time. The first six months of new adventures are included. After that, $9.99 a month for unlimited new stories — or cancel anytime and replay the ones you’ve already run. The kit is yours forever either way.
- When does it ship?
- First batch ships November 2026. We’re hand-assembling a small first run, so spots are limited. Save your kit and we’ll email you once before they go.
- What ages is it for?
- Built for ages 4 to 10. Younger kids will need more help; older kids can run their own. Adventures scale — 15 minutes for the little ones, 30 for the older ones.
- Will there be more kits?
- Yes. Lantern is the start. In 2027 we’re launching Beacon (a sister kit for the stars), Custom Worlds (adventures starring your kid’s actual stuffed animals and toys), and seasonal Companion packs. Every kit you buy joins the same growing world.
- Can I gift it?
- Absolutely. Gift packaging and gift-card options are coming for launch — about 4 in 10 first-year kits are expected to be from grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Save your kit now and we’ll send gift details before November.
- What if my kid doesn’t love it?
- Try it for a month. If it doesn’t become something your family reaches for, write us at hello@lanternandfox.com and we’ll make it right. Returns details land with your shipment.
